Preparing for the inevitable hurts, avoiding Compassion Fatigue is essential.

Compassion Fatigue is experiencing an extreme state of tension while caregivers care for their loved ones.   When a caregiver does not practice self-care and stress management,  the effects are seen physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.

As we anticipate the inevitable, we anticipate grief.

  • Understanding the anticipatory grieving process does not eliminate grief, but helps the caregiver mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually prepare for the journey.
  • Acknowledging the anticipatory grieving process does not eliminate the bereavement process.  What it will do is help the caregiver to remain in the present,  mindful of the moments given with their loved ones before death.
  • Understanding the process of anticipatory grieving does not eliminate the steps of grieving, but helps the caregiver recognize the effects grief has on them physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
  • Understanding anticipatory grief allows the caregiver to acknowledge their triggers and thoughts that follow.
